BONK! 93 @ The Christmas House

Dear People of the BONK!–
.
This month’s BONK! event will be held at The Christmas House, which is…..stop me if you’ve heard this one……like Christmas in….June?   Ugh.  Well, you get the idea.  Weather permitting, the event will be held outside and all who come are encouraged to bring their own chair or blanket to sit on.  In the case of inclimate weather, the event will be in The Christmas House itself.  There’s even a rumor that some drinks might be available for sale, or other refreshments.  A rumor, okay!  I said it’s just a rumor, don’t get your hopes up…….
 .
Check out the fabulous line up we’ve got below and get ready to fall in love with life, literature, music and community all over again.
Merry Christmas! : )

ANNIE RIVERA: is a multi-talented and passionate soul whose love for music has carried her into some great places and experiences. She works as the Family Program Director at Casa Romero where she uses her gifts of writing, singing and spoken word artistry as a positive voice for change for the youth in Milwaukee. During the summer she is the director of a program called the MC in ME where young ladies in middle school could express themselves with their own talents and gifts. She is a mother of three, works 40 plus hours a week at a non‐profit. In her spare time loves participating in different community events and collaborating with artists all over Milwaukee to promote positive uplifting messages and music for the public.
.

OSCAR MIRELES:  is a man of many talents and accomplishments.  He is a poet as well as Editor of anthologies titled “I Didn’t Know There Were Latinos In Wisconsin.” He has a chapbook titled “Second Generation” published in 1986, and was recently appointed the fifth and first Latino Poet Laureate for the City of Madison for 2016-2018.  When he isn’t writing or editing, Mr. Mireles serves as Executive Director of Omega School, where he has been employed for the past 22 years, offering GED preparation and adult basic education services to over 3,000 Dane County students.  He has received numerous awards and recognition for his service to the community, the most recent of which is the “Outstanding Educator Award” from the 100 Black Men of Madison organization, awarded this year.

.

DECOTEAU BLACK:  is an eclectic indie-soul group that boasts an impressive repertoire of groove-oriented music. Formed in 2013 and anchored in the original compositions of songwriter and guitarist Decoteau Irby and his founding collaborator drummer John Laws, the band engages a rotating cast of mostly self-taught musicians who rely heavily on soul, funk, and improvisational jam-band sensibilities to drive their musical ambitions. The band’s 2015 album “Without You” offers seven superb tracks that explore themes of loss and longing and demonstrates a refreshing approach to song-writing and development.

The band currently includes Justin Finner (Keys and guitar), Daniel Finner (Guitar), and Miguel Sanchez (Bass).
