Happy second birthday everyone! October is BONK!’s birthmonth and my how it has grown. We’ll be having two killer events this month so here’s the lowdown. First, since there’s a new time and location for the Baby BONK!, here’s the whole news release:
LIBRARY HOSTS BABY BONK! POETRY READING AT GALLERY B4S
Racine – The Racine Public Library is hosting a mid-month “Baby” BONK! at Gallery B4S, 613 Sixth St, on Sunday, October 17 at 7:00pm. This event is free and open to all, and will feature readings by poets Jennifer Karmin, Tom Orange, and Mark Wallace.
Jennifer Karmin’s text-sound epic, Aaaaaaaaaaalice, was published by Flim Forum Press in 2010. She curates the Red Rover Series and is co-founder of the public art group Anti Gravity Surprise. Her multidisciplinary projects have been presented at festivals, artist-run spaces, community centers, and on city streets across the U.S., Japan, and Kenya. At home in Chicago, Jennifer teaches creative writing to immigrants at Truman College and works as a Poet-in-Residence for the public schools.
After eight years in the D.C. poetry scene and adjunct teaching there and a
year in Nashville, Tom Orange moved back to his home town of Cleveland,
where he is active in the local arts and music scenes. Recent work includes
“Tremont Poetography,” a group poet-photographer book and exhibition at
Doubting Thomas Gallery; solo and small group experimental music
performances on alto sax, clarinet, guitar, banjo, and dulcimer at The
Scarab Club (Detroit), Sp@ce 224 Gallery (Buffalo), Audio Visual Baptism
(Cleveland), and the Post_Moot Convocation (Oxford, Ohio); and an excerpt
from his chapbook American Dialectics (Slack Buddha) being reprinted in
Against Expression: An Anthology of Conceptual Writing (edited by Craig
Dworkin and Kenneth Goldsmith for Northwestern University Press) due out
this December. His music blog can be found at <http://destinationout.vox.com>.
Mark Wallace is the author and editor of more than fifteen books and chapbooks of poetry, fiction, and essays. Most recently he has published a collection of tales, Walking Dreams, and a book of poems, Felonies of Illusion. http://wallacethinksagain.blogspot.com.
